Wharf Divestiture Meeting
There will be a public meeting about the divestiture of the
Federal wharves on Keats Island and other locations on the Sunshine
Coast on Saturday, October 23, 1999. The meeting will be held in
Gibsons at the Cedars Inn, 895 Highway 101. The purpose of the
meeting is to inform the public about the most recent Ference Weicker
report. Feedback about optional methods of taxation to offset
operating losses is wanted. More information can be obtained from

PUBLIC SERVICE NOTICE
We have made a number of changes to the Dogwood Princess II
schedule for the fall/winter season, relating to providing better
connections with the Route 3 vessel and the local bus. In
addition, we will be sailing some of our less frequently used trips on a
“request only basis” during this period.
These “on request” trips will be marked on the schedule with
an asterisk. The procedure for requesting service will be as
follows. If you are travelling to the islands from Langdale you
only need to show up on the dock at the appropriate time although we
would appreciate advance notice. Daytrippers may notify the crew
of their intended return time.
If you are travelling from the islands to Langdale you must
phone the Dogwood Princess voice mail at 886-4420 at least one hour
prior to the scheduled sailing and leave your name, phone number, number
of people in your party and time of trip requested. The Dogwood
Princess crew will check the voice mail regularly prior to each
sailing. Providing your phone number will enable the crew to
contact you should weather conditions (Eastbourne in particular) or
mechanical difficulties make pickup impossible. Providing your name and
the number in your party will enable us to ensure that all passengers
are accounted for should you cancel. This is not a water taxi service
where you can request to travel at any time. You must request
service in the designated time periods only – those marked with an
asterisk.
In addition:
At the request of Keats Island residents we have added a stop
in Gibsons once per week on a request basis on Wednesday.
At the request of car drivers connecting with the 8:20 am
sailing to Horseshoe Bay, we have made the first trip 5 minutes earlier
so that residents can get their cars in line prior to the arrival of
Powell River traffic without having to run.
We have moved the 12:10 sailing to New Brighton up to
12:05. This will allow passengers to connect with the local bus.
We have moved the 4:20 pm sailing to 4:10 pm so that the
students don’t have as long a wait in the afternoon at Langdale
Terminal. This also provides a better connection with the local
bus.
We have moved the 5:15 sailing to 5:30 to give daytrippers a
better connection back to Vancouver.
We will continue to wait for passengers who are parking cars
when they are arriving on a connecting sailing provided we are notified
(886-4420) with the exception of the 1205 sailing because of the
connection with the local bus. Passengers with vehicles wishing to
connect mid-day from Route 3 should travel on the 1:15 pm sailing from
Horseshoe Bay.
