The
New BC Ferries Experience™ Card
|
One
of BC Ferries many new improvements is the
Experience™ Card launched April 02 2008.
The deadline to convert your old prepaid
tickets to
the new cards has been moved to May 31 2008. However, after today you
will pay cash for the fare increase along with your old prepaid
tickets. The new Experience™ cards are yet another excellent idea from
the constantly improving BC Ferries. Total convenience and the security
of being able to track ferry passengers will be a great
benefit to all islanders. More information about the cards can be found
on the BC Ferries website.

Island Roads are mostly refreshed.

Potholes are
mostly
gone. There is a rumor
that fourteen properties must use a section of road for it to be
maintained... The refreshed state of the roads may be a little
uncomfortable to drive on for now. However, a lower tire pressure may
help. If you are walking, watch for marbles.
Condition of the roads has been the major concern of the Keats Island Road Committee.

Dear Contacts,
Below is a link to the proposed agenda for the next regular business meeting of the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee:
To be held in the Mainil Room, Gibsons Public Library, 470 Fletcher Road, Gibsons, B.C. on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 10:30 a.m.
http://www.islandstrust.bc.ca/ltc/gambier/meetings/agendas/2006/gamltcagendajune072006.pdf
All meetings of the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee are open to the public and public attendance is encouraged (regardless of which island you're from or where you live). The meeting schedule, bylaws, meeting agendas and all adopted minutes of the Gambier Island LTC are posted on-line at: http://www.islandstrust.bc.ca/ltc/gambier/gambier03.htm
Please contact Islands Trust Regional Planning Manager, David Marlor ( dmarlor@islandstrust.bc.ca ) if you're seeking more information on any applications or bylaws under consideration by the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee. Islands Trust Senior Planner Felicity Adams has taken a new position within the Ministry of Community Services. At our last meeting, the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee thanked Felicity for her services to the Gambier group of islands and extended well wishes to Felicity in her new endeavours.
For Keats Islanders, I'd like to draw your attention to a staff report recently posted on the website under "Current Topics", under the heading "Keats Island Planning Review Follow-up: http://www.islandstrust.bc.ca/ltc/gambier/gambier06.htm
* "Staff Report dated March 29, 2006 regarding Keats Island Planning Review Follow-up Project - Status Report"
This report (received at our last meeting) and some draft bylaws (also posted) regarding commercial and industrial sawmilling, use of trailers and RV's as residences or sleeping cabins in the Eastbourne (CR1) zone, and maximum floor area for Private Institutional buildings in the PI (Private Institutional - Keats Camp) zone are currently under discussion by the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee.
The Local Trust Committee plans to hold an on-island public information meeting on Friday, July 7, 2006 at the Keats Camp Dining Hall to discuss these issues as well as a recently received revised subdivision and rezoning proposal for D.L. 696 (Keats Camp). Notices will be posted in June, when arrangements are confirmed. The LTC is seeking public input on the draft bylaws and development proposals. Public meeting attendance and/or written input is encouraged. Any change to the Keats Island Land Use Bylaw or the Land Use Contract for D.L. 696 would require a public hearing.
Please pass this on, post, or otherwise distribute, as appropriate.
Thanks again for your help in keeping islanders informed.

Dear Keats Contacts,
Please see the forwarded email below.
As you may recall, in 2000 (after 6 years of tough negotiations and a public referendum), the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) took over ownership and operation of 6 Transport Canada "Government Wharves" (or "Ports") and one DFO Wharf within the SCRD (and Gambier Island Local Trust Area). This included the public wharves on Keats Island: Keats Landing and Eastbourne.
The other Ports are: Gambier Harbour, West Bay, Port Graves (Camp Artaban), & Halkett Bay (Camp Fircom) on Gambier; Vaucroft on North Thormanby; Halfmoon Bay and Hopkins Landing on the SCRD mainland.
It has recently come to my attention that the SCRD has appointed a "Ports Advisory Committee" (PAC), which includes SCRD appointed "representatives" for each of the "Ports". The appointed members of the SCRD PAC for Keats are: John Low (Eastbourne), and Joan Pedersen (Keats Landing).
The SCRD is currently undertaking a review and "Ports Strategic Business Plan" and is asking the SCRD PAC to provide input and recommendations to the SCRD on the future operation, management, use, and funding of all the Public Wharves in the SCRD (including Keats Landing and Eastbourne).
As a locally elected Islands Trustee for the planning area that includes Keats Island, I encourage all stakeholders with an interest in the future of Keats Public Wharves to contact Chuck Steemers at the SCRD, as well as the Keats appointed members of the SCRD PAC with their comments and concerns. Please contact Chuck Steemers to obtain more information about the SCRD "Ports Strategic Business Plan" and process.
I will be asking the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee to follow-up on this issue with the Sunshine Coast Regional District Board under the terms of the Islands Trust/SCRD Protocol Agreement to ensure that island-wide community consultation occurs as a part of the SCRD Ports Review.
Please "cc" any of your communications with the SCRD and/or SCRD PAC to Islands Trust Senior Planner Felicity Adams at: fadams@islandstrust.bc.ca , so that the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee can also be aware of your concerns and issues.
Please pass on or share this information, as appropriate. Thanks for helping to keep islanders informed.
